“Using a smart dress, researchers discovered that three women at a party, in just under four hours, were touched a combined 157 times without consent. It changed the way men thought about harassment from ‘women are just whining,’ to ‘this is a problem!'”

Volunteer Spotlight
What is your favorite thing about volunteering at IMPACT?
What is your favorite thing about volunteering at IMPACT?
I think IMPACT skills are an antidote to harmful messages about power, relationships and self-determination in our culture, so it was a joy to collaborate with staff and board members who feel the same way. I hope my work on the website increases IMPACT’’s capacity to help people.
When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you spend it?
I’m equally likely to read some in-depth investigative journalism—I especially love ProPublica’s work—or play Plants vs. Zombies on my phone.
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
I know you hate not being able to achieve the huge poofy hair currently in vogue, but Future You is grateful that she dodged a style calamity. More importantly, cruel, sexist behavior from eighth-grade boys reflects their struggle with toxic masculinity-infused puberty, not your failure to be the perfect girl.
What is something you learned in the last year?
To succeed in any type of work, collaboration and learning are as valuable as experience and expertise. Also, fighting blindfolded in IMPACT’s advanced class is surprisingly fun!
What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
My mental health suffered during Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Once again, privilege eliminated accountability for sexual assault and a survivor endured denigration and threats for coming forward. But my Facebook and Twitter feeds showed me that friends and hundreds of strangers, especially women, were struggling and furious as well. I felt less alone and more hopeful that sustained effort can end rape culture’s power over our lives.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?
I’d combine Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hercule Poirot, Veronica Mars and Jessicas Jones and Fletcher to become the ultimate mystery-solving superhero.

We want to hear from you!
IMPACT organizations in the U.S. and around the world are asking graduates for feedback on how they have thought about or used IMPACT skills. Whether you took a course last week or 30 years ago, we appreciate your participation.
3 Ways You Can Support IMPACT
First: We need 100 donors to give $10/month to fully fund our Executive Director so she can devote more time to IMPACTS’ mission in Colorado–working with more organizations and making connections with other wonderful service organizations.
Second: We need 50 donors to give $8/month to fully fund our Program Coordinator position. With a fully funded Program Coordinator we be more responsive to individuals interested in courses, setup corporate workshops, and have the resources to serve 500 people in 2019.
Third: We need 15 donors to give $29/month to fund our scholarship program so that IMPACT can fully realize its mission to serve ALL who wish to take our courses. Many trauma survivors cannot afford the $350 basic course fee. With a scholarship-level gift, you will provide funds for individuals who would otherwise not be able to take a course. Your gift will directly pay our instructors, required insurance, and room rental.
Be sure to like us on Facebook so we can reach people who need to hear about the life-changing work we do.
